Help us keep caring for hundreds of people in Wisbech and the Fens...
Who are we and who do we care for?
The Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre
is an Arthur Rank Hospice service based in the North Cambs Hospital in Wisbech. We provide a range of free out-patient support services to people - and their families - who are living with a life-limiting illness or condition in the Fens.
Last year we cared for over 1000 people living with a life-limiting illness or condition (including palliative conditions and illnesses such as lung disease, heart failure, motor neurone disease or cancer) - and their loved ones - at the day treatment centre in Wisbech and within patient's own homes via our Hospice at Home team.
Our services are provided free of charge five days a week and include clinical treatment, day therapy and complementary therapies for patients as well as bereavement and support services for families and carers. We additionally provide specialist clinical advice and support to palliative patients being treated on the adjacent Trafford Ward.
Why are we running the Alan Hudson DTC Appeal?
Since opening in 1998, the Centre has supported many people, who have appreciated having their treatment in a friendly environment close to home. As we look to the future, it is clear that the demand for our services will increase alongside the needs of those we care for becoming more complex.
We want to improve and extend our current facilities into purpose-built spaces, befitting of the care provided by the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre’s staff and volunteer team.
Where have we got to?
We have drawn up plans for the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre to be expanded and redeveloped so the environment for our patients and carers, will match our high standard of care. The plans (which you can see below) include:
- Space for private consultations giving improved privacy and dignity
- More treatment rooms with equipment to support patients with complex needs
- Dedicated complementary therapy and diversional activity rooms
- A sensory garden
- Increased Hospice at Home services to improve end of life choices
- Rooms to support more patients and their families each day
We have have raised £225,000 so far thanks to the generosity of:
The Hudson Foundation
The Friends of the Wisbech Hospitals, with support from the Robert Hall Charity
Thanks to their support, we have secured a large proportion of the funds needed.
