11 year old Shyla and Darren take on a new Challenge to support charity

11 year old Shyla Brown, from Newton on Isle near Wisbech, is taking on another challenge for the Alan Hudson Centre a service of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

On 28, 29 and 30 August 2026 she will be walking from Silverstone Race Track in Northamptonshire to the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech.

Shyla has taken on a number of challenges for the Charity in memory of Kim Tarbie, her friend’s Mum, who was supported by the Alan Hudson Centre and the Charity’s Hospice at Home Team, before she died in December 2025.

Shyla will be walking ten hours over the three days to complete 93 miles, with Darren Barnard. Darren will be walking in memory of his wife Emma Barnard who was a ‘huge F1 fan’ and was also cared for at the Alan Hudson Centre.

Before she died in January 2026, Emma set up a charity called ‘Edith’s Purse’(opens in new tab) to support families in poverty. Shyla and Darren’s fundraising will be shared between the two charities.

Darren took part last year for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s first Star Shine Night Walk in Wisbech and urged people to sign up to the event.

Shyla has raised over £15,000 for various causes and charity’s and hopes her most recent challenge will take her close to £20,000.
