As the clocks ‘fall’ back this Autumn grab your diaries to save the dates for your favourite Festive activities with our Charity.

Rudolph Run

From the 15 November we are inviting schools across Cambridgeshire to join us in our first ever Rudolph Run, held in their own playground – a sponsored event that all children (including teachers!) can participate in.

This is an exclusive event for educational settings to allow children a small insight into how a Hospice is run and to support their local charity.

The children taking part will all receive a certificate and their very own set of antlers to take home!

Winter Quiz

Neville Mizen has supported us with his interesting quiz for many years and, to date, has raised over £19,000.

The theme of this year’s quiz is ‘A Hairy Puzzle’ and each of the solutions contains a word or words that in some way relates to hair with a winning cash prize of £25.

If you would like to take part the quiz can be downloaded from our website arhc.org.uk/events/detail/neville-mizen-quiz-2021-22/ from November 2021 until February 2022.

Good luck and happy quizzing!

Festive Fun Run

We invite you to raise festive cheer in your neighbourhood on Sunday 28 November, by taking part in our family-friendly Festive Run.

Participants are being encouraged to do their best (or worst!) in Christmassy fancy dress as they run, walk, wheel or scoot 5 or 10km around their neighbourhood.

Teams can either take part as individuals in different places, or together in one group, and because you chose your own route and method of transport (feet, wheelchair, recumbent bike, pushchair) the route can be as accessible and inclusive as you need it to be.

Register before 21 November at arhc.org.uk/festiverun to get your runner pack, which includes a Santa hat, tips and treats to keep you going! Or call the Charity’s events team on 01223 675888.

Places are £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16.

Light up a life

We invite you to remember and celebrate the lives of people you love on Sunday 5 December with Light up a Life.

Regardless of whether you have had experience of the Hospice’s care and services, you’re warmly invited to be part of the event with family and friends.

Light up a Life will take place in the Hospice’s grounds at Shelford Bottom at 5pm. The event will be filmed and shared post-event for those who wish to watch it for the first time, or again, in the comfort of their own home.

The special evening is a wonderful opportunity for people to join-together with an extraordinary community of colleagues, volunteers, supporters and friends, to reflect, remember and look ahead to the future with hope.

As those who have experienced the Charity’s services will know, the community embraces everyone and welcomes people of all faiths and none.

Sing! Choirs will perform some beautiful choral pieces of music, and there will be poignant readings of poetry and prose.

The Hospice invites you to donate and share the names of loved ones by Wednesday 17 November at arhc.org.uk/lual. A copy of the Light up a Life Commemorative Booklet will be posted to each person who donates in memory of someone.

For more details about the event please visit arhc.org.uk/lual or call 01223 675888.

Soham Christmas Tree Festival

Knitted Christmas themed items

The Soham Christmas Tree Festival, which runs from 8-14 December features many of Christmas inspired creations our very own ‘Knits of the Round Table’, a volunteer group from both our Cambridge Hospice and from the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre. They celebrated their 4th birthday in March and regularly come together to create knitted items for the Hospice and for our shops.

You may have seen them adorn the lampposts, leading from the path to the Hospice from the Babraham Road Park & Ride, with their talented creations to make the journey a little brighter.

Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme

It will soon be the season of goodwill and we are pleased to announce the return of our Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme from 6−9 January 2022.

A lonely tree ready to be collected and recycled by #TeamArthur

We are inviting residents of CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, CB21, CB22, CB23 and CB24 to make a donation in exchange for having your Christmas tree collected.

NEW THIS YEAR – we have added Waterbeach to our list!

We have a team of volunteers ready to save you the hassle of needles in the car and waiting for a place at the tip. We can also help reduce your fuel costs by collecting your real tree and disposing of it for you. All trees will be chipped and donated for composting.

If you would like your tree to be collected or you can spare a few hours to volunteer, visit arhc.org.uk/tree-recycling or call the Fundraising Team on 01223 675888.

After costs, 90% of the monies raised will go towards patient care with the remaining 10% going to support the great work of the Rotary Club of Cambridge.

Last year volunteers collected 2,900 trees and raised in excess of £54,000! So, this year feel good about saving yourself the hassle of disposing of your tree and take part in this fantastic initiative. Registrations will close at 10am on Monday 3 January 2022 unless capacity is reached in advance of this date.
