Ten Year old Henry’s Heartfelt Bake Sale in Memory of Uncle Stephen
Share this story
Henry, aged 10 years old, from Cambridge, recently turned his love for baking into a meaningful tribute for his late Uncle, Stephen Pattison.
Stephen, who was cared for by the dedicated team at Arthur Rank Hospice, passed away on 18 June this year in the Inpatient Unit.
To honour his Uncle, Henry decided to organise a bake sale, raising an impressive £210 to support the Charity that had shown his family such care and compassion.
With the help of his mum, Caroline Smith, Henry spent days baking an array of sweet treats. From flapjacks to homemade cupcakes, his kitchen became a hive of activity, filled with the warm, comforting scents of fresh bakes. But Henry didn’t stop there. He designed his own T-shirt to wear for his fundraiser event and distributed flyers to his neighbours, spreading the word down his street and in the local area.
His efforts paid off as friends, family, and even people who didn’t know Stephen personally, came out to support his cause.
Henry’s bake sale was a huge success. His neighbours praised the young boy’s dedication and the delicious treats on offer, with many sharing stories of their own connections to the Charity.
When asked why he decided to host the bake sale, Henry simply said:
“I wanted to do something for Uncle Stephen. He was always kind to me, and I know he would have loved these cakes.”
The fundraising event culminated in a visit to Arthur Rank Hospice, where Henry, alongside his mum and aunts, proudly handed over the money he had raised. The team at the Charity were deeply touched by Henry’s efforts, recognising the significance of his contribution.
Henry’s donation will go directly towards supporting the care of other families, ensuring that they receive the same compassionate care that his Uncle Stephen did. Sarah Clayton, Community Fundraiser, expressed her thanks to Henry:
“Henry’s bake sale is a shining example of how even the smallest acts of kindness can have a big impact. His story is a testament to the power of community and the love that inspires people of all ages to give back. Through his efforts, Henry has not only honoured his uncle’s memory but has also made a difference in the lives of others.”
