A group of students called ‘Community Ambassadors Team of Soham’ (CATS), were so moved by hearing about the Charity’s services they were motivated to organise their own individual fundraising initiatives.

Sarah Clayton, Community Fundraiser at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity visited the dedicated pupils from Soham Village College at one of their weekly meetings. They were eager to learn about the vital work the Charity does across Cambridgeshire. Sarah shared insights into the comprehensive services and compassionate care the Charity provides supporting people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.

Five remarkable students—Alex, Iris, Oliver, Ted, and Tom—decided to channel their enthusiasm and creativity into fundraising efforts. Each student found their unique way to contribute, demonstrating their commitment and philanthropy collectively raising over £264 (additional donations received after photo was taken).

Alex baked delicious cakes and hosted a series of cake sales. Her culinary skills and friendly approach attracted a steady stream of customers, all keen to indulge in a sweet treat while supporting the Charity.

Iris organised a car wash, offering spotless cars, with the assistance of her sister, in exchange for donations. Her hard work and determination paid off, as the service drew in many supporters, eager to contribute to a good cause while getting their vehicles cleaned.

Oliver became the local football club’s mascot, using his role to engage the crowd and collect donations during matches. His lively presence and dedication turned each game into a fundraising opportunity, bringing the community together in support of the Charity.

Ted took on the challenge of collecting donations. Armed with a bright smile and a passionate pitch, he reached out to friends, family and local businesses, successfully raising a significant amount for hospice care.

Tom showed his adventurous side by embarking on a sponsored bike ride. Pedalling through various routes, he not only enjoyed the ride but also raised awareness and funds, with each mile bringing him closer to his goal.

Lucy Alda, Student Services Manager at Soham Village College commented:

“I am so so proud of the CATS for all the efforts they have gone to and the money raised, so proud!”

CATS were so enthusiastic about their efforts that they invited Sarah back with the Charity’s beloved Arthur Bear, to visit them again. During this follow-up visit, the students eagerly shared their fundraising stories and the successes they had achieved.

Sarah emphasised:

“It is exciting to see the next generation taking such an active role in supporting palliative care. We would like to thank the CATS team for their enthusiastic support and innovative fundraising efforts. Their spirit of giving and community involvement serves as an example of the power of youth in making a positive difference.”
