Sixth form students have been busy fundraising for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in memory of their much-loved fellow student, Kieran Tetlow, who passed away in 2023. Kieran and his family were supported by the Charity.
Students attending The Hive, Granta School, in Linton, Cambridgeshire, are working towards their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards, which includes a fundraising component.
Class Teacher, Allison Darken shared:
“Giving back to the Hospice and knowing where Kieran was looked after helps the students to process their grief. We were delighted when Sarah suggested a visit.”
The students organised a cake sale and printed tote bags to sell, successfully raising £225.85 for the Charity. Community Fundraiser, Sarah Clayton, along with Arthur Bear, the much-loved Charity mascot, had the opportunity to visit The Hive.
Students attending the Hive are aged between 16-19 years old and have a Special Educational Needs (SEN), including moderate to severe learning difficulties, complex needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities and Autism Spectrum Conditions.
During their visit, Sarah and Arthur Bear toured the Sixth Form, whilst meeting the young supporters and visiting a memorial wall created by Kieran’s friends and teachers. Sarah remarked:
“We were thrilled to visit The Hive. It was wonderful to see the students and talk with them. Collaborating with schools is a key way to help break down the myths around hospice care.”
Visits to schools with (or without Arthur bear) can be arranged by emailing cf@arhc.org.uk or telephoning 01223 675888.
If you, younger members of your family or your school have been inspired and would like to fundraise for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity please contact Sarah from our Community Fundraising team, email cf@arhc.org.uk or call 01223 675888 for fundraising support.
