Robert Barnes set up ‘Lisa’s Fund’ in aid of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in 2010. Robert sadly lost his wife Lisa to cancer and subsequently pledged to raise a tremendous £100,000!
Lisa Barnes was born on 19th September 1952 and passed away on 15th September 2010.
Robert quickly started fundraising in Ely, Soham, Littleport, Cambridge and surrounding areas in memory of Lisa and in May 2014 achieved his target.
Robert was the very deserving winner of the Unsung Hero category in the 2013 Cambridge News Pride of Cambridge Community awards. Click here to find out more or click here to hear Robert's story.
Although Robert has reached his goal, Robert continues to fundraise for the charity and will be involved in a number of events on behalf of the hospice over the coming year. We are so very grateful for his continued support.
On reaching his target, Robert Says: 'It has been a great journey and I have met some wonderful people. The support and dedication I have received from volunteers, the local community and businesses is overwhelming and I am so very grateful. I am absolutely thrilled to have raised £100,000 in such a short amount of time. When I launched Lisa's Fund, a friend of mine who is an accountant, told me I would be lucky to reach it in five years, but I have proved him wrong and reached it in three years and seven months! Although I have now reached my goal, my passion and commitment for ARHC still remains, therefore I will continue to fundraise for them'.
