Our CEO Sharon Allen, has responded to the government’s announcement last night about funding for front-line charities:

“We were delighted to hear Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s £200 million pledge to UK Hospices in his Coronavirus press briefing on Wednesday 8 April. This recognition is crucial. Not only does it recognise the importance of hospice care at this time, but it also ensures that charities like ours can continue our essential work, protecting the valuable contribution that we make to our communities. This is hugely appreciated and will undoubtedly help to sustain our valuable services over the coming three months.

Our anticipated shortfall of £700,000, takes into account the next six months, and as the Chancellor detailed, sadly not every pound we stand to lose from our usual income generation activities will be replaced. Additionally as one of 220 hospices in the UK, we await further information about what proportion of government funding we may receive.

Whatever the outcome of this, it is clear that we will require further funds to support our services through this difficult time and beyond, to remain sustainable.

We are extremely grateful to all those who have already responded to our SOS!!Support Our Services appeal. We have been truly overwhelmed by your generosity and I would personally like to thank each of you for continuing to donate, raise funds and awareness on our behalf.”
