Why did you become a Nurse?
I worked as a carer from the age of 16 but initially my intention was to complete my nurse training and then become a midwife – once I started my training I knew that actually adult nursing was what I was meant to do.
Why have you specialised in palliative care?
I always had a passion for palliative care through my training but was always told not to go straight into it because I would burn out too young, so instead I went into Intensive Care – where I spent a lot of time caring for dying patients and their families. I always knew palliative care was the specialty for me and I love being able to care for patients and their families at what for many is the most difficult stage of their lives.
What do you love about being at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and helping our community?
At the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre we build relationships with patients and their families, they trust us to help them. We are a small team but work well together and other services at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to enable the patient to be cared for holistically.
What do you like most about being a Nurse?
Being able to make a patient feel they are being listened to and we are doing all we can to help them, when a patient is so grateful for the help you have given, that’s when you know you’re doing the right job!

Could you Sponsor a Nurse?
Without our dedicated, and specialist nurses we could not achieve the vital care patients in your local community need. Could you help us to ensure our nurses are there for those in your street, the next village, and across our county facing a difficult time in their life? Please see our Sponsor a Nurse page to find out more.
