Widowers raise over £4,800 at Rotary Jazz night for Hospice Care

When Rotary Cambridge South member, Colin Brown organised his first Jazz Night in Haslingfield, he had no idea it would become an annual tradition!
The event has continued to bring the community together to enjoy live music from The Barry Tyler Jazz Band, all while supporting people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
The most recent evening event raised an incredible £1,600 and a total of £4,800 over the years to support people via Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
Colin organised the yearly events along with friends Stuart Gibbons and Mark Skehel, who have both experienced first hand the care given at the Inpatient Unit, when their wives died in 2024. Their shared experiences brought them together in friendship and now they are channeling their gratitude into giving back.
For Stuart, supporting the Hospice wasn’t new – he’d been volunteering for years, driving for the Retail Hub and taking part in the Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme even before his wife Maggie sadly passed away. Mark too wanted to do something meaningful in memory of his wife Samantha to support the team that took such good care of her at the end of her life.
The Charity is very grateful to everyone who has made this a success and they look forward to hearing about next years event!
If you would like to fundraise for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity – whether it’s a quiz night, a bake sale, a sports challenge or something completely unique, every event helps to support people at the Hospice at Shelford Bottom, at the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in people’s own homes in the community.
Gather your friends, do something you love, and make a difference. Our Community Fundraiser, Sarah is here to help—get in touch at Cf@arhc.org.uk to start planning your event today!
