In 2019 on 23 July Tom’s brother, Michael Stead (pictured on the right above) passed away. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provided Michael’s end of life care at the Inpatient unit.
On the fourth anniversary of his brothers death, Tom Stead and his friends, Lee and Rich have challenged themselves to cycle from Cambridge to Malham, in Yorkshire. Malham was one of Michael’s favourite places and where his ashes were scattered.
On 22 July Tom, Lee and Rich will be cycling an incredible 227 miles in just one day and are expected to spend 20 hours in the seat. They plan for an early start and will set off from the Hospice at 4.45am to raise money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
Tom commented:
“Myself and two of my good friends will be cycling (starting from the Hospice) to Malham in one day, ahead of the four year anniversary of Michael’s passing. I am hoping to raise £2,270 – keeping the fundraising aligned with the date and distance.”
Tom continued:
“It was Michael that got me into cycling many years ago, and it seems a fitting tribute. I have done a number of long distance cycling charity rides before, but even this will test my capability and endurance. My wider family will be there at the end and Nickie my wife has kindly offered to be our support car on the day!”
Community Fundraiser, Sarah Clayton commented:
“Tom’s story really touched us. To take on such a mammoth challenge at what is naturally such an emotional time, it is a testament to how incredible Michael’s legacy is and the strength of the brothers bond. Very best of luck Tom, Lee and Rich! ”
