Margaret Marks, is a Friend of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
For Margaret supporting the Charity comes from a place of deep personal experience and lifelong commitment to caring for others.
After more than 45 years working across the health sector and now volunteering as a Patient Advocate, she has witnessed first-hand the extraordinary difference that genuine, compassionate end‑of‑life care can make. Margaret shared:
“Despite the significant loss of a loved one, doing the right thing at the end of their life, not only helps the patient, but gives enormous peace and comfort to those left behind and will impact greatly on their wellbeing as they grieve their loss. It is the last thing you can do for a person and it will have lasting memories for relatives, friends and loved ones. To me it was a privilege and a pleasure.“
Giving regularly is, to Margaret, a natural extension of her values and her gratitude. It is her way of helping to ensure the Charity can continue to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care. She kindly shared her reasons why she regularly donates to the Charity:
“I have had a few relatives, friends and patients who have spent their last hours in the Inpatient Unit at Arthur Rank Hospice. The care, compassion and kindness has been consistent across all of the clinical team.
Last year, in 2025, we were visiting a friend who had an incredibly complex situation involving a family who all had some of their own challenges and were not coping with their relatives’ untimely and unexpected critical illness.
The Hospice allowed everyone to visit at any time, treated everyone with courtesy and kindness and above all left the family with the knowledge that their loved one had the best possible care before they died with dignity.
The Inpatient Unit felt very much like home – warm, friendly and not clinical. We all loved the Bistro, which not only provides quality food and drink but allows a level of normality, in a very abnormal situation.
Being around your staff, who brought together every element of care, dignity, laughter and love is a clear testament as to why we must support hospices, whether in the Inpatient Unit or in the community via the Hospice at Home Team. It is doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason.”
From the bottom of my heart – I thank you for all you do.
