Joanne Tunwell’s Step Father was cared for at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in August 2022. The care he received on the Inpatient Unit motivated Joanne to take on an Ultra Challenge to raise vital funds for the Charity.
Joanne contacted the Community Fundraising Team to let them know she was taking on a walking challenge of 50km across the beautiful, but challenging, rolling hills of Chiltern with Ultra Challenge.
Joanne explained more about her reasons for fundraising for the Charity as she described her Step Fathers care:
“During his final month the Hospice provided us all with a beautiful safe space in which we could all spend quality and precious time with him. Whilst there he received such compassionate, calming, and supportive care, from a truly dedicated and passionate team, that enabled end of life to be as peaceful and graceful as it could be for him, and for this I am forever grateful.
I wanted to raise funds for Arthur Rank Hospice, so that other families can continue to feel the wrap around care that we had during such a heart-breaking time.”
Joanne raised an amazing £457.00 with the support of her sponsors.
Sarah Clayton, Community Fundraiser commented:
“We are so grateful to Joanne who has made a wonderful contribution, to enable us to continue to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end-of-life care, which we recognise must have been at a difficult time for her personally.
Ultra Challenges are a great way to take part in an event at a time, location and distance that suits you. They also offer three different funding options to make it as flexible for the participant as possible.”
