Karin Living Well patient at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

Karin is now five weeks into an eight-week Day Therapy programme with Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

She was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in January 2019, having initially experienced numbness and tingling in the fingers of her left hand. Around the same time of her diagnosis, she began to have mobility issues with her left leg.  More recently problems have developed with her right leg too.  She now has trouble walking so has a (glamourous, sparkly) stick and is in the process of obtaining a wheelchair, for longer distances.

“If I inspire one person, to become hopeful again and keep on going, I have reached my goal with this.”

She is a holistic healer and, having been through a low period recently, realised that the way to help herself, would be by dedicating her life to helping others once again.

A few days later when attending Day Therapy, she noticed a poster, advertising the Hospice’s Firewalk, which takes place in our car-park this Saturday (9 November), from 5.30pm… If you’d like to sponsor her please visit: facebook.com/donate/725568294576946/ We wish Karin – and all 29 of our hot-stepping Firewalkers – all the luck in the world for this unique physical and mental challenge on Saturday evening.

Feeling inspired by Karin’s story?  Up until midday on Thursday (7 November) you can still register to take part in the Firewalk yourself at arhc.co.uk/firewalk.asp or by calling 01223 675888.

Registration is £30, with Firewalkers committing to raise £125 in sponsorship.

Friends, family and supporters are welcome to come along and join us on the evening. There will be musical and gymnastic entertainment, as well as hot food and refreshments for sale in our Bistro.

UPDATE:

A huge WELL DONE to our 29 firewalkers who completely smashed the first Firewalk to be held at the Hospice on Saturday 9 November!

It was an amazing night with such a positive and uplifting atmosphere and this is thanks to all our fearless walkers and their friends & families who came to cheer them on!

Thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, bistro team and staff who helped on the night and also to our fantastic entertainers; singer Tom Petie and the stunning aerialists.

We also cannot thank the team from Firewalking UK enough for helping us put on such a fantastic event. Thank you to Steve for motivating and encouraging all our firewalkers across the coals and for the whole team for being so skilled in what they do!

We also have to mention the inspirational Karin who successfully completed our Firewalk with MND and did it completely unaided! Karin did this Firewalk to show that living with MND still means anything is possible and she sure proved that!
