The well attended bereavement group at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity has changed it’s name to ‘Grief Connections’.

Anyone who is experiencing grief, bereavement or loss are welcome to visit ‘Grief Connections’ for bereavement support.

The free, drop-in group meets every Friday from 10am to Midday, in the Bistro at the Hospice. ‘Grief Kind Space’ was established in 2024 and was first led by trained volunteers from Sue Ryder. It moved to Arthur Rank Hospice in January 2025.  The group, now called ‘Grief Connections’ is managed by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, with many of the same trained and experience volunteers.

Many people have been comforted by the support and friendships they have made there, which have reduced the feelings of isolation and loneliness.

One attendee shared:

“It’s an incredibly friendly, welcoming group and while we know that we’ve all suffered a loss, the group is also about the life after that, even mundane matters like shopping and cooking for one.”

You do not need any connection to Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to attend. As an open-ended group, there is no set programme or commitment to attend for a specific length of time. You are welcome to come regularly or simply attend as and when you feel you would benefit from support.

Hayley Gale, Counsellor at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity said:

“The group has been running for over 18 months and has developed a strong and valued community. Whilst it was previously run by Sue Ryder as ‘Grief Kind Space’, it now sits under the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity umbrella as ‘Grief Connections’, whilst continuing to provide a welcoming space for people to connect with others who understand the impact of grief.”

Another member added:

“It’s been wonderful spending time with others who ‘get it’ and understand emotions. We talk, laugh and cry. It’s the most important part of my week. I’ve built wonderful friendships.”
