Soham Village College continues to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

For the second year running, students and staff at Soham Village College(opens in new tab) have been finding plenty of ways to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and this year they have raised more than £3,000.

From taking part in a Pride World Cup and Rudolph Runs to helping rehome hundreds of the Charity’s much loved knitted Spring Chicks, there has been something for everyone to get involved with. The Charity’s mascot, Arthur Bear made several visits to join in the events.

The school has supported a mixture of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity initiatives alongside its’ own fundraising ideas, giving students the chance to have fun while learning more about the difference their fundraising can make to local people. Assistant Head, Richard Pearce, commented:

“It’s been another great year at Soham Village College as students and staff once again supported a range of fun activities to help raise over £3,000 for the amazing Arthur Rank Hospice. It’s been a privilege to help fundraise for this incredible charity who support so many of our students families.”

The partnership has also helped make the Hospice a familiar name around the school. For many of the students, supporting Arthur Rank Hospice Charity has been their first opportunity to learn about the care provided to local people living with an advancing serious illness and those in need of end-of-life care, as well as the support given to their loved ones. It has also opened up conversations at home, giving families an opportunity to talk about subjects that can sometimes be difficult to discuss, including end of life care.

Sarah Clayton, Community Fundraiser at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, has seen the difference this has made and commented:

“It is wonderful to see the Charity’s name being recognised by young adults in the area. Their enthusiasm to support us is a fantastic reflection of the school’s community. Seeing students get involved in so many different ways has been brilliant.”

The £3,000 raised by Soham Village College can help Arthur Rank Hospice Charity protect nine of Inpatient Unit beds which are vulnerable to closure from April 2027 and support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.

After two years of working together, the school’s support has become much more than a series of fundraising events. It has helped introduce a new generation to their local hospice and the work it does for people in their own community.
