Witchford Village College Walks in Memory of Cherished Former Colleague

During the final week of the summer term, known as ‘Enrichment Week’, students and staff at Witchford Village College came together for a sponsored walk to raise money in memory of much-loved former member of staff, Andy Carruth.
Participants took on two walking routes of approximately six miles and two miles, with all proceeds going to Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in recognition of the care and support the Charity provided to Andy and his family.
Andy, who sadly died in April 2026, aged 54, following a short battle with bowel cancer, made a positive and lasting contribution to the Witchford Village College community during the nine years he worked at the school. Remembered for his warmth, kindness and dedication, Andy was also a talented photographer, gifted painter, Duke of Edinburgh examiner and a long-serving Scout leader who supported the lives of many both inside and outside the classroom.
Students, staff and families embraced the event with enthusiasm, enjoying the opportunity to spend time together outdoors while raising funds for a charity that cared for Andy in the Inpatient Unit and provides vital care and compassion during life’s most difficult moments.

Adding a personal and emotional touch to the day, Andy’s parents, Heather and John, attended the school to see participants set off. Heather also took part in the six-mile route, walking alongside students and staff in memory of her son, making the occasion especially poignant for everyone involved.
Sarah Clayton Community Fundraiser attended on the day and commented:
“You can feel just how much Andy meant to this school. Seeing hundreds of people walking together in his memory is a beautiful tribute to a much-loved colleague and the funds raised will ensure his legacy of supporting others through Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.”
