Registered Nurse, Anne B, was recently recognised for demonstrating personal and professional courage at work.
Anne is an experienced nurse who qualified in 1992. She worked in a number of settings before joining the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in 2021.
During the pandemic she worked agency shifts with the Charity and despite living nearly 40 miles from the Hospice, felt compelled to join them permanently as she had been overwhelmed by the standards of care given.
She also felt that the Charity’s culture and values; Excellence, Compassion, Care and Community, were very much aligned to her own. Carly Wills, Matron of Clinical Services at the Charity agreed:
“Without hesitation, having worked with Anne over the last four years, we completely agree with her.
From 2023 to 2025, Anne supported the Nursing and Midwifery Council with a sensitive investigation which was particularly challenging for Anne both professionally and personally.
Throughout this time Anne showed nothing but courage and resilience providing high levels of professionalism, care and dedication to her patients, their loved ones and her colleagues.
Feedback from families shows just how thoughtful and compassionate Anne is. She is so incredibly respectful and tolerant and even during the darkest times she shone a light through her kindness, care and compassion.”
Anne was presented with a Cavell Courage Award by the Senior Leadership Team at the Hospice in December 2025 after being nominated by her colleagues. The Cavell Courage Award is about recognising personal or professional courage within the nursing and midwifery workforce.
2025, marks 110 years since the death of Edith Cavell, a pioneering British nurse whose compassion, conviction courage continue to inspire generations of healthcare professionals.
