A one metre Mural and plaque at Arthur Rank Hospice in Shelford Bottom is on display during Social Work Week, 16 – 22 March.
The purpose of the ‘Social Work Happens Here’ artwork is to shine a light on unseen Social Work and the spaces it takes place in, rather than traditional roles, to showcase the breadth of the profession for Social Work Week.
Turner-award Winning Artist and former Social Worker, Helen Cammock designed the circular artwork which was spray painted onto the external wall at the Hospice, in collaboration with Social Workers. She believes ‘Social Workers are special and should be celebrated.’
Designs of various different colours, chosen by the individual Social Workers are displayed nationwide. They suggested wording, which Helen made into a poem ‘To stand beside, While standing for, Standing here, still’ to represent the work they do.
The plaques are part of the national ‘Change the Script’ campaign led by Social Work England.
Alex Giasemidis, Palliative Care Social Worker at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity suggested the colour green for the Charity’s display, to tie in with the Charity’s brand. Alex shared:
“My role is unusual as I work for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and I am the only Palliative Social Worker at Cambridgeshire County Council. I find it very rewarding to achieve the best possible outcomes for the people I support and it is good to celebrate all we do.”
As part of the exhibition, Alex was interviewed at the Hospice and appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour on 16 March 2026.
If you would like to view the mural before 22 March, please park in the Babraham Road Park and Ride and take the short walk over to visit the Hospice and our Bistro or an activity at Arthur’s Shed.
