Hospice Patient is over the moon with her makeover hair style

For people living with a life limiting illness or for those receiving end of life care, the simple things in life – like visiting the hairdresser can be problematic.

Lynda Taylor, a volunteer hairdresser at the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech has changed that for patients visiting there. Lynda kindly shared more:

“I used to own a hairdressing salon. One of my regular customers was on the rehab Trafford Ward in Wisbech [where the Alan Hudson is situated] so I was visiting her to cut her hair. I then became aware of a Salon at the Centre that wasn’t being used, so I popped in to see if I could volunteer.”  

Michelle Knight, Matron at the Alan Hudson Centre explained:

“We were delighted when Lynda came in to offer her services. Having her volunteering as a hairdresser is valuable to our patients, as they cannot always get out for a haircut.”

One Monday morning Lynda swapped her shift to support a patient, Lesley, who visits the Alan Hudson Centre and has transport arranged for that day.

Lesley had long hair and wanted it cut. She was over the moon with her transformational makeover.

Lynda volunteers on a Tuesday morning, but will come on a different day, with prior arrangement, if there is a patient who cannot get in on that day. She can wash, cut, set and blow dry. This service is free but donations are welcome.

Lynda added:

“I am happy making patients happy, as having their hair done lifts their spirits when they are going through difficult times.”
