St Faith’s pupils support Hospice in memory of their teacher

Ever since former teacher, Mrs Allanson, was cared for by the Charity, pupils at St Faith’s Prep school in Cambridge wanted to do something to give back.

With support of their teachers they lovingly painted plant pots and filled them with fresh plants for the Hospice’s plant stall for the second year running. One pupil commented:

“We have hand-painted flowerpots to help raise money. Arthur Rank is our Chaucer House Charity at school and we chose the Hospice as our Charity because one of our teachers, Mrs Allanson, was looked after at the Hospice and we want to say thank you.

Her name is also on the memory tree in the Hospice. We know that lots of other St Faith’s families have been supported by the Charity as well. We hope that our colourful flowerpots, lavender and herbs will make you smile.”

The children along with teachers from the school, which educates girls and boys aged 4-13 years old, visited the Hospice to donate their creations and were met by Sara Robins, Clinical Services Director & Deputy CEO and Emma Hartley, Joint Living Well Service Lead. Both Sara and Emma were overwhelmed by their individual donations and were able to show them the plant stall and the Memory Tree leaf with Kate Allanson’s name on it.

The plant stall, which supports the Charity’s green strategy, is situated outside the entrance (from Spring to Autumn) at the Hospice at Shelford Bottom and people are welcome to donate or buy (for a small donation) plants or local produce. It recently had a full makeover by volunteers from Edomag, a global Health Tech Company and the children’s plant pots help brighten the display even further.

All donations from the plant stall go to supporting people in Cambridgeshire with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
