In December, The HireWorks team spread festive joy by raising a fantastic £632 through a series of successful bake sales held across the region.
The week-long event, which took place from 9 to 13 December, aimed to purchase much-needed items for the Inpatient Unit (IPU) at Arthur Rank Hospice, Cambridge.
The team worked tirelessly throughout the week, baking 378 cookies, visiting 32 sites, and driving 413 miles to deliver their delicious treats to businesses across the area. Their hard work and dedication resulted in an overwhelming show of support for the charity.
Emily, a recruitment consultant at The HireWorks, helped to organise the bake sales and explained why they chose to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity during the festive season. Emily shared her personal connection to the Hospice:
“Arthur Rank Hospice holds a very special place in the hearts of the team at The HireWorks. My father received truly exceptional care there during his final illness, a brain tumour. The staff’s compassion and unwavering support during that difficult time meant the world to me and my family, making his last days as comfortable as possible. We wanted to express our gratitude by supporting the Inpatient Unit directly.”
The HireWorks team set an ambitious target and encouraged local businesses to book them in to host bake sales over the five-day period. Within the first few days, they surpassed their original £100 target, raising an incredible £632. Emily said:
“Our initial goal was to raise £100 to provide stocking fillers for the 21 patients in the Inpatient Unit. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters, and thanks to them, we raised far more than we ever expected. This will allow us to do so much more for the patients. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who contributed to our fundraiser and we wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
On 19 December, Emily and her colleague Nico, delivered the donations to the Hospice. Nico, who also has a personal connection to the Hospice as his grandmother received care there, was proud to be involved in such a meaningful cause. The pair arrived at the Hospice with a car full of festive treats and essential items, including Christmas goodies, lip balms, hand creams, soaps, socks, handheld fans, bird seed, bird feeders, therapy clay, and more.
Matron of Clinical Services, Carly Wills, said:
“Jenny (Ward Manager) and I were overwhelmed with the kindness that The HireWorks has shown to the patients on the Inpatient Unit. The stockings and all the other gifts will have a direct impact on the patients this impact will continue after Christmas. The gifts have clearly been thought through and we thank them on behalf of all the patients and families that will benefit from their generosity for thinking of us and we would like to wish them and all their supporters who contributed a very Happy Christmas.”
The festive season is a time for giving, and The HireWorks team’s generous fundraiser is a perfect example of how businesses and individuals can come together to make a real difference in their community.
