The Education and Conference Centre at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in Cambridge was the host for this months Cambridgeshire County Council’s (CCC) ‘Schwartz Rounds’. Colleagues from both CCC and Arthur Rank Hospice came together for the session titled ‘Working through grief and loss.’
Anna Syson, Chair of the Steering Group from CCC explained:
“Schwartz Rounds, named after Kenneth Schwartz, give colleagues who work in environments which require an emotional toll, a space to reflect on how their work impacts them. They provide a safe, confidential space for colleagues to share experiences in a structured and managed way.”
Three guest speakers shared their personal stories and how this impacted them at work, whilst the Facilitators and members of the steering group invited the audience to share their thoughts and reflections, without inviting further questions or advice.
The sessions are designed to support staff wellbeing, for both clinical and support staff, to manage the emotional challenges of care and foster a compassionate, open culture.
Carly Wills, Matron of Clinical Services at Arthur Rank Hospice shared:
“Naturally, wellbeing is very important for everyone at the Charity, which is reflected in our Charity’s values; compassion, care, community and excellence. The Schwartz round was such a valuable space to pause, reflect and reconnect with the heart of our work.
Sharing the experience alongside colleagues from Cambridgeshire County Council made it even more special. A reminder of how powerful it is when we come together to support one another.”
