Zumba dancers in Doddington came together on Saturday 1st February to raise money for worthy causes. In its third year now, dedicated dancers joined forces and took part in a Zumbathon event in Doddington by challenging themselves to dance for a staggering 8 hours!

Each year, every dancer raises money for their own individual charity and Arthur Rank Hospice were one of the lucky beneficiaries. Through sponsorship and money raised through a raffle on the day, the event raised over £5400, of which £531 has been donated to the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity!

Community Fundraiser, Bethany Brown commented: “We are so grateful to the local community of Doddington and to Kayleigh who chose to raise funds specifically for ARHC. I couldn’t believe it when Kayleigh told us she would be dancing non-stop for 8 hours too!”

“We are so lucky to have the support of our community and this Zumbathon is just another example of how creative our supporters are, in thinking of ways to fundraise! Not only have they raised an amazing amount of money, the Zumbathon has increased awareness of our charity and the work that we do. This is just as important, so to Kayleigh and all of her supporters- thank you so much.”

The funds raised at the Zumbathon event will help to make a genuine difference to our patients and their families. For example, £531 could help go towards:

– The cost of producing a patient’s life story book to remember the good times to share with family members (£30).
– Funding a counselling session, to support a relative after the loss of a loved one (£55).
– Covering the cost of patient transport for a day, helping patients to attend appointments held at the Hospice (£90).
– Helping us to make a patient’s dream come true and enable them to enjoy a wildlife experience (£100).
– Allowing us to manage, train and support our army of volunteers each day (£214).

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity would like to extend its thanks to the local community, and those in Doddington, who have come together to raise money and increase awareness of such fantastic causes. As a charity, it will cost £8.66 million this financial year to operate our services. Of this figure, £4.68 million is budgeted from our contracts with the NHS and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

We are extremely grateful to our local community for the dedication, commitment and generosity they show in helping to raise the remaining £3.98 million.
