Later this month, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity hosts its annual Star Shine Night Walk on Saturday 22 June.

The event raises funds for hospice care to support people living across Cambridgeshire with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition, so that they can receive the care they need, when they really need it.

Over 300 people have already registered to walk together through the streets of Cambridge on the 10 and 5 mile route. This year, the Charity has seen over 50 teams enter so far, with groups made up of family, friends and colleagues.

One amazing team is a group of colleagues from the Waitrose branch in Trumpington. Lynette Innocenti saw one of Star Shine Night Walk flyers and said:

“As a branch we have not done anything like this before (individually maybe, but not as a team). A couple of us saw the Star Shine flyer that had been dropped off in the Trumpington branch and thought it would be a great way to raise money for a wonderful cause and it would be something we could do as a team. I decided to create a sign up sheet in the branch hoping that other partners would join me.”

Lynette has recruited ten others to join her on the walk, and she added:

“On the night we are going to be rocking green flashing tutu’s, with the exception of Daisy who will be rocking a pink one! (Daisy is the youngest of our group). We will also be wearing “Team Waitrose” sashes with our names on them, along with glittery hair spray and who knows what else. We are looking forward to the comradery and great atmosphere of the night, with many of us are working the next day.”

Lynette was inspired to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity following support at the Charity’s Firewalk in 2022. She commented:

“Sally and I volunteered to Marshall for the Fire walk in 2022 and we were both inspired by the amazing facilities and care that the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provided, and how it was mainly funded through donations, whether a fundraising event or other ways. You can never underestimate the impact, light and support the Hospice has in the darkest days of someone’s life.”

To help raise funds, Lynette and the team have a little display of handmade cards, created and stocked by the Charity, for sale for customers at Waitrose in Trumpington. All proceeds will be given to the Charity.

Star Shine Night Walk 2024 is kindly sponsored by Hamberley Care Homes, Cambridge Grove. Thanks to their support, together with the registration fees, donations and additional sponsorship received, the Charity is aiming for this year’s event to raise over £40,000 for Hospice Care.
