Shoppers who visit any of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s shops, Retail Hub or Retail Outlet come for a variety of reasons.

Many like to find a bargain to update their wardrobe, home or garden, shop sustainably by re-using or gifting pre-loved items or to seek out their next up-cycling project.

One such customer was a man from South Wales who emailed E-Commerce Lead, John Bilney, at the Retail Hub with an unusual request. John explains more:

“He said he was interested in buying a number of vintage golf clubs, but asked if we could hacksaw the handles off before sending them. ‘An odd request’, I thought but sent them over.

I was delighted to receive a follow up email and photo, a few weeks later, where he explained he’s a custom motorcycle builder and artist and turns the golf clubs into cute animal sculptures!”

Hannah Touhey, Voluntary Services Manager, also found a treasure to upcycle and shares her experience:

“I bought this lovely trolley at our Burleigh Street shop when it first opened. I fell in love with its character but wasn’t sure what I would use it for. I didn’t have a car so trundled it all the way home – a great way to show those wheels worked well!

I upcycled it with different shades of blue paint on each level, which really complement the lovely golden wood. It now stands proudly in my hallway as a place to pop all the bits and pieces you use everyday!

Shops in Burleigh Street, Mill Road, Regent Street, Cottenham, Great Shelford (and soon to open in March Town) and our Retail Hub and Outlet in Pampisford are always brimming with opportunities for the creatively minded.

We always love to hear how our pre-loved donated items have been treated in their new homes. If you post on any of the social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Linkedin please tag us to let us know what your purchases look like in their new homes.

The Big Green Week from 8-13 June is the perfect excuse to come and visit for a rummage to find your next project and help support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition.
