You can now register for Cambridge’s much-loved Bridge the Gap event; and walk to support two great local charities.
Raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, this year’s walk on the morning of Sunday, 15 September will begin and end on Parker’s Piece, in the centre of Cambridge.
The family-friendly walk will follow a unique route, new for this year’s event, going behind the gates and into the grounds of seven Cambridge Colleges.
The Bridge the Gap walk hosted more than 1,350 walkers last year, and helped to raise £27,700, shared equally by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill, the event’s two charity partners.
Supported by The Cambridge Building Society, in its 16th year as headline sponsor, the Bridge the Gap walk for 2024 is now officially open for registrations. Early bird booking of £16 per person is available now, for a limited time only, at arhc.org.uk/btg, with up to three under-16s, enjoying the walk with every paying adult.
Bridge the Gap was launched in 2001. Since then, more than 47,000 walkers have helped to raise more than £690,000 for local charities. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s Deputy Chief Executive, Sara Robins, said:
“Bridge the Gap is a wonderful event, offering a unique experience for walkers, taking in seven of the city’s historic Colleges in a single route, specifically designed for the event. We are really looking forward to Sunday 15 September, when we hope to see many of our loyal supporters of the event, as well as those taking part for the first time. The money raised will go a long way to ensuring our two charities can continue to do the vital work that the local community has come to expect from us.”
The wheelchair and pushchair friendly route for Bridge the Gap 2024 will be revealed soon. Walkers will be guided and helped by more than 120 volunteers and there will be a volunteer-led cake tent for refreshments and live acoustic music on Parker’s Piece. Neil Perry, Chief Executive at Romsey Mill, said:
I love the way that Bridge the Gap brings together local people, businesses, and community groups to enjoy some of the amazing sights that Cambridge’s Colleges have to offer, whilst benefitting two excellent local charities at the same time!
Bridge the Gap is a unique and special family-friendly event and I’m really excited about what the walk has to offer to everyone who takes part this year!”
As well as the headline sponsor, The Cambridge Building Society, the event is sponsored by TTP Group, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Cambridge City Rotary Club; with event partners including Cambridge 105 Radio and Cambridge Independent.
Peter Burrows, Chief Executive at The Cambridge Building Society, said:
“We are delighted that Bridge the Gap continues to be a key fixture in our events calendar. It is an occasion in which our team and members really enjoy participating, which is why we proudly lend a supportive hand as headline sponsor.
“It is always great to see our communities come together and help to raise vital funds for local charities. Bridge the Gap is a great example of this, and we are all looking forward to this year’s walk.”
