Football teams in Haverhill after charity match

Four football teams turned out in force over August Bank Holiday weekend at The New Croft in Haverhill to commemorate the life of one of their former players.

Ian (Angry) Anderson sadly died in March 2020 and was cared for in the Inpatient Unit at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. It was a particularly difficult time for the family as the country had just gone into lockdown and so many restrictions were already in place.

Fundraising

Ian’s wife, Charlotte, and extended friends and family were so overwhelmed with the care they received during this time they were keen to do all they could to help other families in the same situation.

The family arranged different fundraising activities including:

  • Ian’s brother shaved his head and raised over £2,000
  • A team of six ‘Angry Amblers’ took part in the Yorkshire 50km Challenge. Even though this event was held across a very hot weekend the team raised over £3,700!

and finally culminating in the charity match with each team; Thurlow, Grampian, Rovers Veterans and Exchange, competing for the trophy.

Very much a family day: inflatables had been set up for the children and our very own Arthur Bear made an appearance (though he resisted joining in with the matches!)

A raffle was held which included a top quality prize of a new Apple iPad.

The grand auction included a pair of England football player, Bukayo Saka’s boots and sold for £550 and an Arsenal football shirt signed by Thomas Partey which saw the winning bid of £450.

The day raised over a staggering £7,200 and was a huge success which is a testament to how well-loved Ian was by his wife and friends and family.

Thank you

Donations made in tribute to Ian currently stands at just over £23,854.
