The Song of the Mass: German Romantic Choral Music
Musical Director: James Potter
Join us for an evening of soaring melody and rich harmony, as we explore some of the most beautiful choral music of 19th-century Germany.
At the heart of the programme is Rheinberger’s stunning Mass for Double Choir – a rarely heard a cappella masterpiece, full of flowing lines and luminous textures. Known as The Song of the Mass, it offers a deeply expressive and elegant setting of the liturgy.
This powerful work is presented alongside choral gems by Brahms and Mendelssohn, and the often-overlooked brilliance of Fanny Hensel – Mendelssohn’s sister – whose songs and sacred music deserve a far wider audience.
Retiring collections for concerts this year will be in aid of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity,
