Year 12 students at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge have raised an impressive £1,380 for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity through a week of creative and energetic fundraising activities.
Georgia Wright, Progress and Support Tutor at Hills Road Sixth Form, explained how Social Action Week has a lasting impact on the students as well as the charities they support:
“It builds social awareness, encourages community engagement, and raises thousands of pounds each year for important causes in the community and beyond.”
As part of Social Action Week, students organised their own fundraising events, with the freedom to come up with ideas that meant something to them. From popular cake stalls, selling fresh lemonade on Parkers Piece, to a remarkable 60km bike ride – their efforts showed real dedication to supporting their local community. One Team even planned the cycle route to reflect the shape of the Charity’s Tree Logo!
Student, Alisha Jordan explained why supporting Arthur Rank Hospice Charity was so important to her:
“We decided to support Arthur Rank Hospice as we think it is a really wonderful local charity that provides people with so much dignity at the end of their life. I also personally have family friends who have received care from the Charity, including my Year 4 teacher who unfortunately passed away from breast cancer.”
Arthur Bear, the Hospice Mascot, made a special visit to the Sixth Form to join in the fun and cheer the students on.

Sarah Clayton, Community Fundraiser at the Charity, praised the students’ commitment:
“We are so proud of these students and are always keen to work with people of all ages to dispel myths around end of life care. It’s fantastic to see young people engaging with such an important cause and helping to make a real difference in their community.”
Thanks to their incredible efforts, the money raised will help provide specialist care and support to people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
