In October, Jake Raven, from Cottenham, challenged himself to run 5km every day of the month, to raise funds for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Each day, Jake ran with a different friend, all of which have had experiences with the Charity in their lifetime. Over the course of the month, Jake, alongside 31 of his friends, ran an incredible 155km.

Jake explained his reason for taking on the challenge:

“Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is a charity extremely close to my heart. I have had a special connection to the Hospice ever since my Grandad was well looked after on his final days with them back in 2002. My Uncle also spent his last few days with them in 2014. Both received amazing care throughout. Making their last few days as comfortable as possible”.

As well as having a personal experience with the Hospice, Jake also shares a connection to the Hospice through his cousin, Carly Wills, who is the Hospice’s Matron of Clinical Services. Jake shared his family’s pride, and understanding of the importance of fundraising for the Charity:

“As a family, we are all so very proud of Carly and all the work she does at the Charity. Arthur Rank Hospice is a charity I will always go to first when it comes to raising money.”

A keen runner, Jake went on to explain some of the benefits of taking on this physical challenge:

“I used to love getting out running, it would clear my head and it is great for the body. I wanted to create a challenge I thought was achievable but also push me.”

Vic Kidd, Community Fundraiser commented:

“Jake has taken his passion for running and used it to raise both vital awareness and funds for the Charity. It is touching to hear that the Hospice has been of support and comfort to Jake and so many of his friends over the years, and we are so grateful for their contributions and all of Jake’s effort as a result. This support will help to care for our future patients and their loved ones.”
