Russell kindly shared his Living Well experience:

“I first came to the Hospice around three years ago after my wife found out about the Living Well Service. They’ve been very good, especially for my wife. [When I’m here] she’s not stressing about doing something for me, It’s a way of getting out and not always being around the same people all the time.

It’s a nice place to come and I always will come while I can, while my mobility allows me to. It’s only half a day and it’s in a way stimulating. I use the word stimulant because yes, that’s exactly what it does.

It’s a very good family atmosphere here. I don’t think you’d get it quite as easily anywhere else and it’s good to come here. It’s different because you do different things. We had different talkers, for instance, talking about different things but relating to our time.

Last week they were talking about ‘End of life’ and, like it or not, that was a good thing for us to listen to because we have to be honest about it, right? It’s our final years. We know that and it went very well.

Then the second session I went into the gym. They’ve got the steady bikes there and for the last two weeks, I’ve done about two to three miles of cycling.”

What would you say to someone who has the opportunity to come to the Living Well Service Sessions?

“Come! Do it. Some people are in a lot worse condition than me. but we’re all on the same path.”
