Long term supporter wins £2,000 in the Summer Super Draw!

Cheryl Wainright, had a lovely surprise when she answered the phone on Friday 4 September. Michelle Woollard, Fundraising Officer, was delighted to let her know that she was the first prize winner in the Charity’s Summer Super draw 2026.
Cheryl started supporting the Charity in 2005 when her Mother in Law was cared for in the Inpatient Unit (then situated at the old Hospice at Brookfields in Cambridge). During her time as a Police Community Liaison officer in the Mill Road area, she would often support the Charity by popping into the cafe for a cup of tea and she signed up to receive the Charity’s newsletters and started buying raffle tickets for the summer and winter raffles.
Later, Cheryl’s Sergeant was also cared for at the Hospice in Shelford Bottom, after being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Cheryl is now a Carer for a gentleman with MND and understands how hard the clinical staff work at the Charity. She described the care of both her Mother in law and Sergeant as ‘amazing’.
Cheryl was absolutely delighted to win the first prize of £2,000 and will put it towards her garden renovation project.
