Clinical Nurse Specialist, Carolyn Thackstone has signed up to the She-Ultra which is a brutal Ultra Marathon of 50km in Pen Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.
As part of her training and to “keep her on her feet,” she has also signed up for the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon!
Carolyn (second from the left in the main photo) knows first-hand the importance of raising money to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care. She has been offering guidance, advice and support for just over three years at the 111 option 4, Palliative Care Hub, the 24 hours, seven days a week, telephone line to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
The She-Ultra, on Saturday 12 April 2025, is a women-only event raising money for women’s cancer charities. Carolyn first heard about the She-Ultra while listening to a podcast on her way home with her husband after he had completed an Ultra-Marathon last year. What really appealed to her was the fact that there were no time cut-offs—it could be walked, hiked or run. Carolyn shared:
“Listening to the race director speak with such enthusiasm about the event’s purpose, and hearing that he himself was living with stage four inoperable neuroendocrine cancer, deeply resonated.”

“On Sunday 9 March, I will be running the Cambridge Half Marathon alongside my husband and two adult children, although I fully expect to be left behind by them all!”
