We were thrilled to welcome Edwin Palmer and Duncan Rhead and his family to our Bistro for tea and cake on Thursday 13 of November along with our Voluntary Services Manager, Hannah Touhey and Joint Living Well Service Team Lead, Sue Rossitter.
Edwin and Duncan were invited to celebrate their certificates of commendation which they received from the Hunts Forum 2024 Volunteer Awards, for their voluntary contributions.
Hunts Forum of Voluntary Organisations is an independent, non-profit making registered charity based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. Their purpose is to ‘encourage, support and develop voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations and individuals to have a real influence over the places and communities in which they live.’ Edwin and Duncan are shining examples of this as both were nominated for the warmth and compassion they bring to their roles, going above and beyond.
Edwin has volunteered with the Charity as a Driver for seven years now and Duncan has volunteered as a Driver for seven years too, more recently joining our Caring Communities scheme as well.
Duncan shared:
“As I am semi retired now I wanted an activity away from the house and I live so close it is the ideal place to come. I like to meet new patients and we get to know each other. I would recommend volunteering to others, especially if you go into it with a clear mind and be able to think about what they need rather than what you need.”
Hannah added:
“It was a pleasure to celebrate with Edwin and Duncan and show their family members around the Hospice site so they could really see just what they do when they are here with us!”
