The Cambridge has been involved in Bridge the Gap for the past ten years and their involvement goes beyond the role of headline sponsor. Each year they champion the event amongst their staff, they advertise the event in their branches and they also offer volunteers in a wealth of roles during the preparation and execution of the event.In this their eleventh, and the events eighteenth year, The Cambridge are urging other local businesses and groups to sign up and experience this unique Cambridge event. The 2019 charity walk – which starts at 9.30am – begins and finishes at Parker’s Piece, will visit Christ’s, Queens’, Corpus Christi, Pembroke and Downing Colleges as well as the Cambridge University Library. The Cambridge average a team of around 100 each year, Stephen Mitcham, CEO for the Cambridge adds: ’When it comes to organising social events, this event has real appeal. You get to see behind the walls of several iconic Cambridge landmarks and the fully accessible route is inclusive for all, attracting all ages and providing a great value family day out. I have lived local to the City for many years, yet I find I gain more knowledge each year and never fail to be impressed by the highlights that are pointed out on route’. Stephen continues: ‘For teams who would like to take part, volunteering is a great way to contribute to supporting the two benefitting charities, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill. We really encourage our team to both enjoy the walk and help out on the day, so you will see many of my colleagues helping to set up, giving out goody bags or marshalling along the route – there is a way for everyone to get involved!’Team entry, which is available to groups of 10 adults or more, is just £16 per adult is on offer until 1pm on Friday 13 September 2019. For group bookings, please call Arthur Rank Hospice Charity on 01223 675888, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.The event remains open to small groups or individuals at a price of £18 per adult with free entry for children, although donations are encouraged to benefit the two benefitting charities. Pre-registration is available until 1pm on Friday 13 September at https://www.arhc.org.uk/BTG. On the day registration entry is £20 per adult.There will be musical entertainment along the route, including performances from Sing! Choirs and Jazz Wave and as an additional bonus a selection of activities will be taking place on Parker’s Piece throughout the event. These include a family activity area, provided by Romsey Mill with arts and crafts tables, and space for children to enjoy the soft-play zone, free of charge. Walkers can also enjoy a performance from The City of Cambridge Brass Band as they enjoy a piece of cake from the ‘Time for Cake’ tent, which raises funds for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity specifically, or one of the food and drinks stalls – the holders of which are kindly donating a percentage of their proceeds to the charities involved.
