From May this year, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity were chosen as one of the two lucky charities being supported by Nellie’s Community cafe in Sutton, near Ely. Along with ‘Squiggles’, a local stay and play group, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity benefited from six months of support. Nellie’s is a unique community cafe, which has close links to one of our long-standing fundraising groups, the ‘Ely Support Group’. The cafe is open on the second Wednesday and last Friday of every month between 10am and 2pm. It is run by volunteers who serve tea, snacks and lunches to their visitors. Visitors are given a coloured token which they can use to vote for one of the two charities, nominated every six months. Depending on the number of votes received, money is raised for the two nominated charities. In this time, Nellie’s have raised an amazing £1013 for us! Bethany Brown, Community Fundraiser for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, adds: “We are so thankful for the incredible support of Nellie’s Community cafe and the local people of Sutton. They have made such a huge difference to the Hospice and people living with a life-limiting illness. Their fantastic donation of £1013 will have such a positive impact on our patients and their loved ones. This amount of money could fund several episodes of Hospice at Home care, which costs £472 per night for one patient.” We are currently running an appeal to raise £100,000 to fund 200 more nights of care. if you would like to know more about our Hospice at Home appeal, then please click HEREArthur Rank Hospice Charity would like to extend its thanks to everyone at Nellie’s Community Cafe for their support. £8.25 million needs to be raised every year to deliver its services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. As only half of this comes from commissioned income, the Charity are so grateful to the generosity of the local community. If you have been inspired by this story, we would love to hear from anyone else who might be interested to support us in a similar way.
