Creative March Community collaborate for Hospice Charity Shop

Customers, volunteers and friends of our Charity Shop and the WI in March, have been busy putting together an amazing window display, in time for the official parade on Sunday 9 November, which will pass the window.
Over nine months ago, Shop Manager, Louise Frary, had the idea of crocheting red poppies for the window. Supporters have all been working for months, crocheting over two thousand poppies to make up the beautiful display which dominates the window at 20 Broad Street in March.
Each poppy has been lovingly created and donated to the Charity, which supports people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
Many people in the March area are aware of the Hospice in Cambridge and have friends and family who have been supported at the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in their own homes in the community, via the Hospice at Home team.
It costs the Charity over £14 million a year to run all of their services and the March Shop is one of nine outlets across Cambridgeshire which helps to raise £5.9 million through retail, donations, fundraising activities, The Education and Conference Centre and the Bistro.
Louise, who learnt to crochet so she could contribute to the display, explained:
“We all wanted to do something great for the shop that was impactful for the local community and that we can build on year on year. It has been a wonderful way to bring the local community together to commemorate others and highlight our large stock of pre loved items.”
