Hospice Team recognised by the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire

On Wednesday 2 September the Charity were delighted to welcome Francis Birkitt, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, once again to the Hospice.

This time he came to very generously award ‘High Sheriff’s Certificates of Appreciation’ to several members of staff. Members of the Bistro Team and Lisa Thompson, Community Fundraiser, were surprised on the day to be awarded their certificates. They were recognised for continuing to provide a professional attitude, smile, comfort and nourishment for our patients, their visitors and the general public throughout a particularly hot summer whilst a key member of staff was absent.

The High Sheriff commented;

“At the Hospice I’ve seen tears, laughter, hugs and quiet moments, as family and friends come and visit their loved ones. I’ve seen two dozen members of a bereavement group having lunch and supporting each other. I’ve seen staff and volunteers chat over break-time coffees, and fundraisers having conversations with potential donors. And all of that needs food and drink. And indeed, good food and cheerful service.

So, it was very appropriate that Arthur Rank CEO Sharon Allen wanted to recognise and thank the bistro’s catering staff and a volunteer who helps with the staff kitchen, and I was delighted to be asked to present them with High Sheriff’s Certificates of Appreciation.”
