Patients and professionals, from the Oasis Ely Cancer Hub, visited the Hospice to find out more about the services provided by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.
The Oasis Ely Cancer Hub offers free support, information and well-being sessions for anyone in Ely and the surrounding area who is experiencing cancer. The hub offers a range of tools to help nurture a sense of control, keep physically and mentally active and take part in wellbeing activities.
Nine members from the Hub began the day on Thursday 26 March, with Emma Hartley, Joint Living Well Services Lead, with coffee in the Bistro before a tour of the Inpatient Unit.
They were interested to find out more about the services that the Charity can offer, to support them, as their illness progresses. They asked questions about the services which are provided at the Hospice in Cambridge, the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and across the Fens, in patients’ own homes via the Hospice at Home Teams.

The day progressed with lunch in the airy Bistro and a walk around the garden before a Mindful Meditation session led by our experienced and generous volunteer Daksha. Emma commented:
“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome members from The Oasis Ely Cancer Hub to the Hospice. They were all very grateful (and a little emotional) to learn more about the wonderful care and services that Arthur Rank Hospice Charity provides. This was evident in the thoughtful card and wonderful donation to the Charity which they kindly presented to us at the end of the visit.”
Àngels Arribas, from the Oasis Ely Cancer Hub shared:
“From the warm welcome and insightful overview of their work, to the truly wonderful mindfulness session and comprehensive tour, every aspect of the visit was generous, thoughtful and inspiring.

Oasis Ely Cancer Hub members were grateful for the opportunity to spend time at Arthur Rank Hospice and gain a deeper understanding of the support they offer to those affected by cancer in our community.
At Oasis Ely Cancer Hub, we’re committed to supporting patients and carers through informative and wellbeing sessions, so building connections like this and learning more about local services, is incredibly important to us.”
Emma concluded:
“We look forward to continuing to work closely with Oasis Ely Cancer Hub and similar organisations, as we develop initiatives to best support patients in Ely and across Cambridgeshire.”
