Darren is walking the Wisbech Star Shine Night Walk for the second year running and kindly explained why:

“My wife, Emma, had terminal cancer and in the last 18 months of her life she had a lot of treatment at the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech. She used to go their for blood tests, bone infusions, massages and wellbeing sessions.

I also used them as it was hard for me too. I could go and talk, ask questions or just cry. They were lovely to me and I will always be truly grateful to them. They are absolutely second to none – they are first class.”

Darren continued:

“In Emma’s final weeks we had the Hospice at Home Team come around to look after Emma. They also kept me reassured and kept me going.”

Darren took part last year for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s first Star Shine Night Walk in Wisbech and urged people to sign up to this year’s event on Saturday 16 May:

It is a really nice evening and it gives you a really nice feeling, knowing that you are helping someone. You can sign up for £10, which includes a t-shirt and a medal (at the end). It starts and finishes at Elgood’s Brewery, where there will be a burger van, drinks and music. It’s a lovely evening.”

He concluded:

“I would encourage you to sign up but if you really can’t do it, please think about sponsoring someone who is. We are probably all going to end up using the Alan Hudson Centre at some point in our lives or know someone who does.”
