Hospice supporter takes on Boxing Challenge in memory of her Mum

Alice Fawcett, aged 26, took on her first ever Charity Boxing Event to raise money for people supported by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Alice, from Impington in Cambridge, kindly shared her reasons for taking on the hardest challenge she’d ever set her mind to:

“I chose to raise money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity as it is a cause close to my heart. In May 2025, my lovely Mum, Linda, passed away, without pain, in the Inpatient Unit at the Hospice, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2020, aged 55.

Mum was a hairdresser and a stylish lady and such a fun, funny and selfless person. We were best friends. There are many stories of her being a caring person and becoming a friend to lots of people. If I’m anything like my mum, I would be very happy.

After not knowing how much time Mum had, from being in a Care Home and then being in A&E at the hospital, knowing she had a bed at the Hospice was the best outcome. Before she was there, I had heard of Arthur Rank Hospice but I had no idea what to expect and I was pleased to see that it was nothing like a hospital.

We were so lucky that her last few days were so peaceful and she was surrounded by family and the care of the lovely staff. They all had so much time for us and it was such a calm environment. I think Mum could tell she was in a safe place.”

Alice explained more about the Challenge:

“I decided to take on this particular challenge as I have always struggled with my fitness and wanted to join a sport with other people. I saw the challenge online with UWCB  where you can pick your charity.

The challenge included eight weeks of 2 1/2 hours of training twice a week and I picked up extra sessions. I have made friends doing this and I can do more than I ever imagined. I will continue boxing as it is the best thing I have ever done.”

Fight Night 

The training finished with a White Collar Fight on the 8th of November 2025, in front of about 500 people including family and friends.

After the match Alice shared:

“It was an amazing night! Everyone had a really good time and I have made loads of friends from doing it! I am continuing training with one of the coaches so hopefully I’ll win my next fight. It’s been so amazing raising so much money for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.”

Alice concluded:

“Hospice care goes unnoticed day to day until you really need it. We are so lucky that Mum got to stay there. It’s so important to fundraise for the Hospice as it benefits the community. I don’t know what I would’ve done if my Mum had to pass away in a busy hospital.”

To date (26 November 2025) Alice exceeded her £200 target and raised over £1,200 to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
