Groups of people came together to take part in Star Shine Night Walk 2025 in Wisbech, in memory of their friend and loved ones.
‘The K Steppers’ team of 15, joined other walkers in May, for the first Star Shine Night Walk held in Wisbech in aid of the Alan Hudson Centre, run by the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which holds an annual walk in Cambridge.
Toni Bird, the Community Partnership Lead at the Alan Hudson Centre, helped to organise the six kilometre (3.7 miles) walk which started and finished in the grounds of Elgood’s Brewery on North Brink. Toni shared:
“The K Steppers’ are taking part in memory of Vivian (Viv) Kilingworth, who sadly died three years ago. Viv, who was one of the original K Steppers, was diagnosed with breast cancer and would visit the Alan Hudson Centre for treatment and blood tests.
She was always very grateful for her treatment and spoke highly of the staff and the care they gave her. It was always her hope that the dancers would raise money as a thank you for that care.”
Linda Pike, one of Viv’s friends shared:
“It’s the least we can do; we are honoured to be doing the walk in Viv’s memory and hope to raise lots of money for the wonderful centre.”
Tom’s family also walked in honour of their grandad/dad, who received incredible support from the Alan Hudson Centre during his cancer journey, to give back and help others access the same life-changing services. Tom’s granddaughter shared:
“We really wanted to give back so everyone who needs these services can continue to receive them!”
Toni added:
“Arthur Rank Hospice Charity always hold their walk in Cambridge and people have to travel but I thought it would be lovely to hold our own event here in Wisbech too.”
Elgood’s kindly agreed to open up their grounds for us, so it was a lovely event as the grounds aren’t open that often, and our walkers were able to enjoy them when they had completed their walk.”
Toni concluded:
“Star Shine Night Walk Wisbech brought people together for a stroll through the iconic streets of the town, creating a special time to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.
“It raised valuable funds and also raised awareness of what we do at the Alan Hudson Centre.”
