Keen cyclists, Alex Brown, Bill Perry, John Jackson and Glyn Jones are taking on a mammoth 2000km (1600 miles) cycle ride through seven countries to raise funds for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, who support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition.
On 9 June, the foursome, who are members of CTC Cambridge Cycle club, start their 18 day challenge from Cambridge, which will include a ride over part of the Alps.

The friends explained more:
“The ride will take us through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. We are following the Via Francigena Pilgrim Route which runs from Canterbury to Rome but making many diversions to places of interest.”
This is not the first time Alex, John and Glyn have saddled up for #TeamArthur. Glyn’s Father-in Law, John Buckle, was cared for by the Charity in 2004 and this motivated him to raise funds for other patients and their families who find themselves in the same position. In May 2018 the LEJOG team, known as ‘the Flatlands Four’ rode over 1180 miles (1913km) from Lands’ End, in Cornwall to John O’ Groats, in Scotland which included with over 54,000 feet of two-wheel climbing. They raised £2,240 for the Charity. Prior to this, in 2014, Glyn cycled in Scotland and the Outer Hebrides raising over £3,300.
Even though, the quartet, ranging between 56-76 years old have many years of cycling experience behind them, they are looking forward to this challenge with some trepidation.
Community Fundraiser, Sarah Clayton said:
“We wish them the best of luck for the challenge and hope they can enjoy some of the amazing scenery on the way. We thank them all for supporting the Charity and we look forward to hearing all about their adventures”.
