Gog Magog Golf Club Charity Day supports Hospice Care

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity was delighted to welcome 96 golfers across 24 teams to the beautiful Gog Magog Golf Club for its bi-annual Charity Golf Day, which raised vital funds to support hospice care across Cambridgeshire.

The day was a great success with players enjoying a full round of golf, a range of fundraising activities and the chance to come together in support of a meaningful cause. The event helps fund the Charity’s care for more than 3,800 patients and their families each year. The golfers all championed the Charity’s purpose and many shared that they had friends and family who had been supported by the Charity, including one man whose wife had been cared for in the Inpatient Unit before she died, just 18 months ago – to the day.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Bidwells, the event’s main sponsor, for their generous support. The Charity was pleased to welcome Phill Theaker, Finance Operations Director at Bidwells, along with his colleagues who joined them for the day and shared tips for the course in the golf day programme.
Special thanks are also due to Gog Magog Golf Club for kindly donating use of their course. The Club’s support was invaluable in making the day possible. Captain, Mark Spears was there in person to welcome golfers, and the entire team at the Club worked closely with the Charity to ensure everything ran smoothly.

The Charity extends it’s thanks to all hole sponsors. Prize hole sponsors were Handelsbanken, Green and Purple, S and W, Dixon Decorators, Solopark Ltd and Peasgood and Skeates. Our standard hole sponsors were Ensors, Rathbones and the Farrogos Team.

Thanks to entry fees and sponsorships alone, over £10,000 had already been raised before the first tee off. With further fundraising throughout the day, including a popular challenge at the seventeenth hole, where players could take on golf professional Tom Baptie, that figure is expected to rise even further. Guests also had the chance to take part in a raffle, with prizes including a full MOT and service, massage treatments and golf lessons.

For the first time ever, a small auction was held during the afternoon barbecue in the neighbouring Arthur Rank Hospice Charity Bistro, with fantastic prizes such as a four-ball voucher for Gog Magog Golf Club and another for the picturesque Thorndon Park.

The day concluded at the barbeque, where the golfers came together, prizes were awarded, raffle winners announced and auction bids placed. It was a wonderful way to end a truly inspiring day of generosity and community spirit. The Charity is also grateful to everyone who donated raffle and auction prizes and to the generous volunteers who helped on the day.

Every swing taken helped to support people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.
