G Webb Haulage take to the skies for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity

G Webb Haulage Ltd in Longstanton, have gone above and beyond, raising an incredible £16,249 in support of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity through an adrenaline-filled skydive challenge on 27 April 2025.
Fifteen courageous members of the team, including office staff, workshop technicians, drivers and quarry workers, took part in the challenge, originally signing up for a 7,000 ft skydive.
However, several daring individuals opted for the full 15,000 ft jump on the day to experience a whole 60 seconds of free fall!
The fundraiser was instigated by Amanda Webb and Kristy Wright, who were inspired to give back following the care their mothers, Brenda Ingle and Barbara Wright, received from the Charity.
Brenda Ingle was cared for by the Hospice at Home team for three days in 2021. Amanda shared her heartfelt thanks, saying the nurses were “not just professional but homely” and that their support helped the whole family through the final days of her mum’s life, as well as the days that followed.
Barbara Wright received care at the Inpatient Unit in Shelford Bottom for three weeks in September 2017. Kristy shared touching memories of her mum’s stay, including her birthday celebration where staff made sure she had everything she wanted, from a proper bath to a glass of port and lemonade.
Kristy’s dog Milo was even allowed to visit the ward.
“It felt like such a relief to be in the Hospice” Kristy said. Both her and her sister stayed in the family apartments on site, which she described as “like a hotel and the support we received was amazing.”
Although Kristy had no previous experience of Hospice care, her mum had mentioned wanting to be in a hospice at the end of her life, so Kristy decided to call the Hospice when she became concerned about her mum’s condition. The response was immediate and compassionate, with a nurse sent out the next day to assess her mum’s condition. Her mum was admitted shortly after.
Kristy also recalled the support following her mum’s death which include therapy, which is glad she engaged with, and the kindness of nurses who encouraged her to call if she ever needed support.
Both Amanda and Kristy were determined to do something meaningful to support the Charity. Amanda said she was “blown away by the support” from colleagues and the wider community, who came together to sponsor the skydive team. Team members ranged in age from 19 to their late 60s. One driver, Ben, stepped in at the last minute with only 24 hours’ notice and still managed to raise £500.
Amanda, who is afraid of flying, admitted she was nervous but was determined to go through with it. She nicknamed her instructor “Buzz Lightyear” and proudly waved to supporters on the ground after her safe landing. “It was such a lovely atmosphere with so many friends, family and colleagues coming along to cheer us on” she said.
Kristy was the last of the team to jump.
“Once I got above the clouds, I thought we must be nearly there,” she laughed. “I looked at the instructor’s watch and we were only at 1,000 ft. We still had 6,000 to climb!”
“There is a real sense of achievement from those who took on the challenge” Amanda added. The team originally set a target of £10,000 and were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of their community. Thanks to everyone’s incredible efforts, G Webb Haulage have raised £16,249.
This amount could fund Hospice at Home care for four patients, provide patient and family support services for two months, or cover the cost of the nursing based in Huntingdonshire for three years. These are just a few examples of how their generosity will make a lasting difference.
We are so grateful to the entire team at G Webb Haulage for taking on the impressive challenge to help Arthur Rank Hospice Charity to continue making every moment count for patients and their loved ones.
