Wisbech’s First Ever Star Shine Night Walk Raises Over £10,000

The community of Wisbech came together on Saturday 17 May for the inaugural Star Shine Night Walk, a spectacular event that lit up the town and raised over £10,000.

A total of 175 enthusiastic walkers, accompanied by many four legged friends, participated in the event, showcasing the town’s strong sense of community and support for hospice care in Cambridgeshire. The walk, which began at 7pm from Elgoods Brewery, saw participants adorn themselves with glowing accessories to create a magical atmosphere throughout the night.

Elgood’s Brewery kindly hosted the event, one of Wisbech’s most well known businesses and stunning wedding venue. First established in 1795, it was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London. The event was sponsored by Boxcross, and Jordan attended on the night to warm up the walkers.

Starting with a loop around the stunning gardens at Elgood’s Brewery, the 6km route then headed around Wisbech, with a stop at Lyncroft Care Home where “Your Choir” entertained the walkers. It was then back into town, before crossing the river and onto the finish line back at Elgood’s. So many were walking in celebration of loved ones, honouring their memory by displaying their name and heartfelt messages on the back of their Star Shine themed t-shirts. At the start of the evening, everyone took a minute to remember those special to us.

Michelle Knight, Matron of the Alan Hudson Centre who started the event on Saturday evening said “I am so grateful to all who attended and supported our first ever Star Shine Walk! It was a truly memorable event and I hope one that will become a firm part of the community calendar. Whilst this event raised vital funds for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, I hope it provided comfort to all who attended remembering a loved one.”

The walkers, cheered along by volunteers, supporters and passers-by, were sponsored by their friends, family and colleagues to complete the route. Donations and sponsorships are still coming in, with the total already over £10,000.

Money raised will enable the Charity to support people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness or nearing the end of their life, to live well, fulfil their end-of-life choices and help their loved ones during the difficult time.

The Alan Hudson Centre is part of the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, who care for over 3,800 patients each year at their Hospice in Cambridgeshire, the Alan Hudson Centre in Wisbech and in patients’ own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. Their outstanding care is provided free of charge to patients and their families.
