‘Robins and Rainbows’ walk Cambridge to Ely in memory of Kayoko

Martin Robinson and his sister Frances Laughton have signed up to the Cambridge to Ely Trek in March 2027. Martin kindly shared his reasons for taking part:
“I am taking on the challenge as my wife, Kayoko, sadly passed away this year (aged 58) after a long battle with breast cancer. Before she died she stayed at the Inpatient Unit at the Hospice and was supported by the Hospice at Home Team when she passed away at home with her family.
All the staff at the Charity were absolutely wonderful, providing outstanding and tender care and support. Kayoko hugely appreciated the care she received and would be delighted to know that her family are raising funds to support the Charity in this way, especially as she was so fond herself of walking in the countryside with friends and family.”
Frances added:
“Kayoko was not only my sister in law but also my best friend and despite us living a four hour drive away from each other, we knew what each of us was doing and rarely missed a day when we weren’t in touch.
I know the care, support and compassion from everyone, both at the Inpatient Unit and with Hospice at Home, was just what Kayoko and Martin needed at such a difficult time.
The Trek is the day before what would have been her 59th birthday so I’m sure it will be very emotional for us all. Kayoko would be delighted to know we are fundraising together to help other people in need of hospice care, especially by doing the Trek, as she was at her happiest outdoors and walking whenever she could, preferably with family and friends.
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity made her final months more bearable and I hope the money we raise will do the same for others in Cambridgeshire that can benefit from this amazing charity.”

Martin concluded:
“I will be walking with my two sons, Kye (aged 26) and Joe (aged 22), my sister Frances and her daughter, Sally (aged 26) and son, Adam (aged 30) – our team name is ‘Robins and Rainbows’.
I would encourage others to support Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in any way they can; they provide such a vital service to the people of Cambridge and can only continue doing this with the support of the community.”
