Ward (IPU) Activities Volunteer

Would you like to volunteer with patients in a 1:1 setting? Then this is the role for you!

In this role you will spend time with patients on the ward who would like to sit with a volunteer either chatting or working through an activity, such as a crossword or craft kit. Each shift will be varied as it will be based around what the patient is interested in doing that day. Some patients may prefer to simply have a tea and a chat and others may want to do an activity. On the ward you can find pre-prepared packs of craft supplies that you can work through together. You don’t need to be a crafty person but you do need to be comfortable facilitating a simple kit.

This role is new so you will be part of a pilot. The role will begin on an ad-hoc basis, you will only be called in if there is someone who would benefit from your time. There will be a small group of volunteers in this role so if you cannot make a particular day it’s not a problem! The ward will usually be able to give you 1-2 days notice, sometimes it may be shorter or longer depending on the patient.

You will need to be happy volunteering on your own with patients and being proactive, although support will always be available on the ward.
