Can your students become the ultimate Summer Superstars champions?
Thanks to the wonders of technology, so much is at our finger tips. From online shopping and banking to social media becoming society's favourite way to catch up with family and friends from all over the world. It's safe to say that most teenagers cannot leave the house without their gadgets in hand. There has never been a more important time to keep active and healthy!
This year we are looking for Cambridgeshire schools to join Team Arthur's Summer Superstars, which is a challenge programme aimed at 11-15 year old students that encourages physical activity, team work and supporting a local cause.
Netherhall School in Cambridge were the first to become Summer Superstars in 2018 as students from years 7,8,9 and 10 pledged to use pedometres to reach the equivalent distance between their school and the Eiffel Tower. 11,200 miles later, they had smashed their target and raised £1200 for the Hospice! How does it work?
Students are invited to choose which "Team" they feel that they belong; The Athletes, The Media Team, The Fundraising Team or The Support Team.
As a combined group of teams (e.g. as a tutor group), they choose and plan a physical activity to attempt and complete within the school summer term alongside raising as much sponsorship as they can before the summer holidays. There may even be a prize for the best group within a school who go above and beyond!
Summer Superstars is a perfect partnership between secondary schools and the Hospice, enabling students to take charge of their fitness, work together as a team to come up with and support the Charity which some students may even have had experience with.
